Learn why and how to be intentional about celebrating milestones with your family.
Here is one of my favorite quotes about celebrating milestones and important moments in life……
“Remember to celebrate milestones as you prepare for the road ahead.” —Nelson Mandela
Watch the video below to learn more about the importance of celebrating milestones in your family.
When it comes to milestones inside of your family, I think it’s super important that you celebrate them.
How you celebrate these milestones is entirely up to you, however, actually doing it is what really matters.
Take a Time Out to Celebrate All Milestones
When there’s something significant, take the time to pause in life, step back, and really celebrate it.
In fact, sometimes it’s celebrating how they got there.
“Sometimes milestones are not measured by the accomplishments of society, but by those of integrity.” —Tamara Ecclestone
Celebrate the milestones, the person, and help them acknowledge others that helped them succeed.
Create a Family Tradition to Continue Celebrating Milestones
We tell a story often our family, about a turtle on a fence post. It was actually a story that was told to our family. We, often, refer back to it while celebrating milestones.
The concept is really simple. If you ever see a turtle on a fence post, you can rest assured that the turtle did not get there by themselves.
Basically, it’s not only important that you celebrate the turtle and the fence posts, but you celebrate how they got there.
For example, in the midst of cake or ice cream, sometimes it’s fun to point back to the person and give them a chance to say thank you to the people that help them get up on that fence post.
“Every obstacle in his journey became a milestone, an occasion for further triumph. We have a model in front of us now, a model who blazes our trail and gives us strength.” —Nikos Kazantzakis
How to Easily Acknowledge and Celebrate Others (cool example)
We’ve got some cool ways on how we make sure to continue celebrating milestones.
For example, my wife’s father, aka, Papa, is notorious for celebrating every single grandchild’s birthday and even his own children’s birthday.
Papa celebrates by getting a bowl of ice cream with granny and “cheers-ing” it to the person they’re celebrating.
Now, why is that significant? Because we don’t live where Papa lives.
So, what they do is they go to the ice cream place, get their bowl of ice cream for celebration, they take a selfie, they hold it up, and they send it to whoever’s birthday/milestone it is in the moment.
Overall, Papa and Nanny are letting them know that not only is their birthday or milestone important, and not only is that day important, but they believe that they are important.
They are celebrating the person and who they’ve become.
You, too, can celebrate in so many different ways. Celebrating milestones can be as easy as what Papa and Nanny do with ice cream selfies. 🙂
Even when they can’t be with the person on their birthday, they’re still celebrating.
They’re still making it significant.
So the point is, celebrate these milestones, be creative in how you do it. And remember, none of us got on that fence post by ourselves.
Also, in the midst of the celebration, take a moment to celebrate the people who helped you get there.
Great idea! Thank you for this post.
